40th Anniversary SingFest18th October 2008 After initial introductions, the combined choir of past/present members repaired to the excellent acoustics of the Blaeconin Chapel to sing Mozart's 'Ave Verum', Bruckner's 'Locus Iste' and what is best described as a full-throated rendering of the Vivaldi 'Gloria'. The present choir contributed exquisite settings of 13th century poems by Rumi composed by Alex Mason and commissioned by the choir to mark the 40th anniversary. The festive mood was enlivened by Alex Mason's rehearsal technique for the occasion '3 bars - that is OK - move on' and by the discovery in mid-duet that soloists and organist were using different editions. After an excellent buffet back at the Nant-y-Ffin motel, a thundering herd of choir members and guests twirled, stomped and shuffled long into the night in an amazing series of folk dances ably directed by an accordion/violin duo The Ceilidh Band. A splendid social gathering. Such things are doubly welcome in a dispersed choir which is usually meeting only for serious practice or performance. |
